Something is in the breeze at T-Mobile. Chatter on social media seems to indicate that reps are aware of a change coming this month to the carrier's device promotions. A T-Mobile Mobile Expert (ME) who goes under the username SunofSam92 on Reddit wrote, "To all my fellow MEs who have seen the new promo changes, how tf we supposed to make money with that sh*t?!?! And now watch Verizon and AT&T flood the airwaves with ads that say 'T-Mobile ain't offering sh*t, come over, and you'll get free phones.'"

T-Mobile rumored to make an announcement on April 2nd that could impact all of its reps

Another Redditor said that the changes will reduce the number of free devices with a promotion to two from four. "Devices are limited to two, down from four. But hey, galaxy watch is no longer 36 months," typed Reddit user prodromic. The T-Mobile reps who posted about this topic were all concerned that the rumored change would negatively affect their earnings. A few wrote that fewer Verizon and AT&T customers will want to switch to T-Mobile once this news becomes official.

One astute comment came from someone who noticed that T-Mobile was being unusually quiet about what management is planning. He considered that a bad sign for customers because if good news was going to be released, the wireless provider would be "shouting it from every channel." As for when T-Mobile plans to make this change to its phone promotions, it appears that this could be announced tomorrow, which is Thursday, April 2nd. My guess is that T-Mobile did not want to announce this change on April 1st for obvious reasons.

There was no clue from Wall Street

One sign that this will be announced tomorrow came from a T-Mobile rep with the username nconsci0usn who suggested that fellow reps go through their leads and close them on April 1st, hinting that something big is coming tomorrow. If such an announcement is made, it could sharply reduce the number of AT&T and Verizon subscribers that end up switching to T-Mobile.

The stock market failed to give us any definitive clue about what might happen tomorrow. While T-Mobile shares fell $5.78 or 2.75% today to $204.25 (and dropped another 30 cents in after-hours trading) underperforming the NASDAQ Composite Index on Wednesday, which rose 1.16%, shares of AT&T and Verizon were both lower on the day. In addition, there were no signs of unusually heavy put option buying, which can often signal a huge "smart money" bet. However, the weakness in the sector could be telling.

So now we sit and wait to see whether T-Mobile is about to announce a huge change in its device promotions. Make sure to check in with us tomorrow.
