Galaxy Z Flip 8: what to expect

What's expected to change vs Galaxy Z Flip 7:
  • Samsung-made Exynos 2600 processor
  • No huge design changes are reported, apart from a reduction in weight and thickness
  • Potentially the same camera system from the Z Flip 7 will be used
  • Battery size may remain unchanged
  • Charging speeds are also reportedly not changing

Expected release timeline:
  • The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to come in the summer of 2026.
  • The phone will come alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and potentially a third foldable model.

Expected price:
  • Rumor has it that Samsung may keep the price of the Flip 8 unchanged.
  • Potentially, this means the Galaxy Z Flip 8 may have $1,099.99 as a starting price.
  • Price hike is always possible.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 release date

We expect Samsung to introduce the Galaxy Z Flip 8 sometime in the summer of 2026. As per tradition, the Flip is likely going to be accompanied by the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Expect a July or August event, judging by previous generations.

*Probable dates

During the summer Unpacked event, we're also likely going to see the new Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and a Galaxy Watch 9 accompanying the foldable devices.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 price

Currently, leaks are still silent on the potential Galaxy Z Flip 8 price. However, Samsung did raise prices for the Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus (and the higher storage options for the Ultra), so there's a possibility that the company may do the same with the Flip 8.

* Potential prices

The economic situation and the memory chip shortages may force Samsung to raise the prices for the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Although we are yet to see a leak about the pricing for this year's clamshell foldable, the S26 pricing strategy we've seen makes us think Samsung is not going to reserve the price hike just for the S26 and S26 Plus.

Samsung also raised its mid-range prices with the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57, so there's that.

Of course, we'll have to wait and see to be entirely certain.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 camera

So far, there are no leaks to indicate that Samsung is planning an upgrade in the camera department for the Galaxy Z Flip 8. It's possible that Samsung may use the same system again (which is pretty decent) and give the Z Flip 8 a 50 MP main camera and a 12 MP ultra-wide one.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 came with the same camera system as its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 6. However, the Flip 6 had made a jump in the camera department by introducing a new 50 MP camera and a more natural color processing approach.

We saw small improvements here and there with the image quality of Z Flip 7 photos vs Z Flip 6 photos, so Samsung did include some updates to the otherwise similar camera system.

Currently, most leaks indicate there's no upgrade coming to the camera system of the Flip 8. Although the current camera system is pretty reliable, the lack of upgrades in that department, including in MP count, could be disappointing to some Samsung fans. Especially the selfie camera, if I may add.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 expected camera setup:
  • 50 MP main camera, Dual Pixel AF, OIS, F1.8, pixel size: 1.0μm
  • 12 MP ultra-wide camera, F2.2, pixel size: 1.12 μm, FOV: 123˚
  • 10 MP selfie camera, F2.2, pixel size: 1.12 μm, FOV: 85˚

However, Samsung equipped the Flip 7 with software improvements, and now we have the ProVisual Engine that optimizes scenes and Enhanced Nightography for low-light scenes.

Potentially, Samsung will refine these even further with the Galaxy Z Flip 8. Features like the Real-time Filters on the Flex Window and Dual Preview (where the subject you're taking a photo of can see themselves on the Flex Window) are also likely to stay with the Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 storage

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is likely to come with 12 GB of RAM (no 16 GB variant is expected) and the standard 256 GB and 512 GB of non-expandable storage. Once again, Samsung may not equip the clamshell foldable with a 1TB storage option, despite the growing trend with smartphones.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 expected storage capacity:
  • 256 GB
  • 512 GB

Frankly, 256 or 512 GB of storage is plenty for a flip phone, even currently. You can store plenty of pictures and videos. Moreover, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 will not be intended as a productivity beast but more like a beautiful daily-driver type of phone sporting a compact form factor.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 design

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 design is not expected to change too much. The Flip 7 became slightly thinner (13.7 mm when folded) than its predecessor, and rumor has it that the Flip 8 will build on that and come in an even thinner body.

Meanwhile, rumors indicate the tech giant has managed to make the Flip 8 incredibly light. Apparently, at least according to this one report, the flip phone may weigh in at just 150 grams. In comparison, the Z Flip 7 weighs 188 grams.

It's important to note that reputable tipster IceUniverse has thrown some doubt on this particular rumor. Ice maintains that the Flip 8 may weigh 180 grams, which is just a tiny bit lighter than its predecessor.

Expect improvements in durability as well, and some new and beautiful colors to choose from.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 display

*Expected
Leaks and rumors claim that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 display isn't getting seriously upgraded.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 did change things in the display department and came with a bigger cover screen and inner display. The inner screen grew from 6.7 to 6.9 inches, and the cover screen morphed into an edge-to-edge 4.1-inch one.

This design allows for more things to be done from the cover screen, and it's a welcome improvement.

For the Flip 8, eexpect the same gorgeous Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with a 120Hz display refresh rate for a smooth feel, which is now a standard. Samsung also improved the FlexWindow's brightness with the Flip 7, so the Flip 8 may sport at least up to 2,600 nits of peak brightness, if not a bit more.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 battery

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is expected to come with the same battery size as the Galaxy Z Flip 7

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 got a 300mAh bump in battery size over its predecessor and sports a 4,300mAh battery cell. The South Korean giant has been steadily improving the battery size of its clamshell foldables, and a similar increase happened with the Flip 6 from the 5 as well.

4,300mAh is still a small battery cell by today's standards: we have Chinese brands introducing way bigger batteries to their phones thanks to silicon-carbon tech. However, it appears that Samsung has not gone in this direction with the Galaxy Z Flip 8

A recent leak provides us with information about the potential battery size of the upcoming clamshell, revealing there are no upgrades in this department this time around.

Reportedly, there will be two batteries in the Flip 8, codenamed EB-BF776 and EB-BF777, with capacities of 1,150 mAh and 3,024 mAh, respectively. Combining these two gives us the typical capacity of 4,174. And yep, that's the same typical capacity that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 sports. So, we expect the advertised battery capacity of the phone to be 4,300 mAh.

Unfortunately, it also seems that the charging on the phone isn't getting upgraded either. Reportedly, the Flip 8 may come with the same 25 W wired charging as its predecessor. This is basically the same speed as the Galaxy Z Flip 4, and since 2022, when the Flip 4 was introduced, this charging speed has not been upgraded.

Competitors like the Motorola Razr and Razr Plus from 2025 beat the Flip here, as these phones support 30 W and 45 W speeds, respectively.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra did bring faster charging to the table, and the charging speeds of its smaller siblings also got upgraded, but it seems the Flip isn't getting this one.

At least judging by the majority of leaks and rumors, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 may actually be an incremental upgrade rather than something revolutionary.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 features and software

Samsung has changed its strategy when introducing new One UI versions. Previously, the Galaxy S were the phones bringing the new One UI, but now this schedule is changed to better align with Android updates.

Because of this change, the Galaxy S26 series got One UI 8.5, and the foldables, including the Flip 8, are expected to come with One UI 9 based on Android 17

There have been a few One UI 9 leaks, showing us at least glimpses of what we can expect.

For one, One UI 9 is expected to bring new features to the Samsung Internet browser. According to this report, Samsung Browser will get support for multiple browser windows. You will be able to turn a browser with tabs into multiple browser windows that can be opened at the same time.

Moreover, Samsung Browser is said to be gaining a feature called Ask AI. The feature should work by grabbing context from the site you're visiting and answering questions. For now, this feature is in beta.

Meanwhile, One UI 9 is also said to bring several UI changes, including a darker background for the Now Bar. Some of Samsung's widgets would be gaining squared-off corners for a more uniform design language. The Gallery app is also reportedly getting upgraded with a new box that would open when you select multiple images for an easier overview of them.

Samsung has not abandoned its desire to lean more into Galaxy AI, so you can safely expect a plethora of new generative AI-powered features for the clamshell foldable. The upgrades that came with the Galaxy S26, like an upgraded Now Bar, Bixby that now understands natural language, and improvements to the Photo Assist feature set, are also likely to be available on the flip phone.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 hardware and specs

Galaxy Z Flip 8's expected specs:
  • CPU: Exynos 2600 (2nm)
  • RAM: 12 GB
  • Battery: 4,300 mAh
  • Charging: 25 wired, wireless support as well
  • Storage: 256GB, 512GB
  • Camera setup: 50 MP main, 12 MP ultra-wide, 10 MP selfie

With the Z Flip 7, Samsung used its own Exynos chip for the first time on a clamshell foldable. The tradition may continue, which may mean the Galaxy Z Flip 8 may come with Samsung's 2nm Exynos 2600 chip. The same processor powers some models (depending on the region) of the Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus.

Most rumors are unanimous that the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is going to sport the Exynos 2600 exclusively. This means that there may not be any variants of the foldable sporting Qualcomm's Snapdragon chip.

The Exynos 2600 is built on a 2nm process. It features a 1+3+6 core architecture and comes with one big C1-Ultra core clocked at 3.8 GHz, three C1-Pro cores at 3.25 GHz, and six efficiency cores (again C1-Pro, but clocked at 2.75 GHz).

Samsung's chip also features a different GPU (the Xclipse 960 graphics chip). Overall, in benchmarks, the Exynos 2600 performs close to the Snapdragon chip that's probably going to be found in the Galaxy Z Fold 8, but it appears that Qualcomm may be on top once again in terms of some aspects of performance.

Nevertheless, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 is not entirely marketed as a power machine. The Exynos should be strong enough for the clamshell phone's audience, and the phone should still be able to handle all regular daily life tasks with ease, with no stutter or lag.

Galaxy Z Flip 8 preliminary comparisons

Should you wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 8?

  • You should wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 if you have the Z Flip 6 or older clamshell foldable. Also, you should wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 if you're due for an upgrade and you've been wanting to give foldables a chance.

    • You should not wait for the Galaxy Z Flip 8 if you currently have the Galaxy Z Flip 7 or another 2025 foldable or flagship phone. The Galaxy Z Flip 8 may not be as huge of a jump from its predecessor in terms of performance or design. Also, it's not likely to be much more powerful than other flagships released in 2025.
