BlackBerry Android smartphones getting March security patch

Although not the first this month, BlackBerry is still one of the companies that offer timely security updates. Following Google's rollout of the March security patch, the Canadian firm announced its Android smartphones are now eligible for a similar update.

The March security update is available immediately for BlackBerry smartphones powered by Android operating system, which were purchased via ShopBlackBerry. The same update should come to BlackBerry Android phones available from other retailers or carrier, dependent on their deployment schedule.

BlackBerry Priv, DTEK50, and DTEK60 are certainly eligible to receive the March security patch, which contains fixes for more than 70 vulnerabilities.

Among the severe vulnerabilities addressed in this update, BlackBerry mentions a remote code execution vulnerability in OpenSSL and BoringSSL, which could enable an attacker using a specially crafted file to cause memory corruption during file and data processing.

Another remote code execution vulnerability is related to the mediaserver and could enable an attacker to cause a similar memory corruption during media file and data processing.
